About Me
Hey, I’m Chad Kettner – thanks for visiting my blog!
I have been a die-hard sports fan all of my life. In elementary school I would wake up at 5:45am so that I could read the sports section in the Vancouver Daily Province before I had to get ready for the day. My Dad had season tickets to at least one of the three big sports teams (BC Lions, Vancouver Canucks, and Vancouver Grizzlies) and I would cheer on the home team wildly whenever I had the chance.
Well, this childhood fascination continued to grow along with me as I continued to age.
At the young age of thirteen I became actively involved in fantasy sports. Most know that this is not a common thing for thirteen-year-olds to enjoy. I would measure statistics and put together in-depth draft boards to prepare myself for my three favourite fantasy seasons: basketball, football, and hockey. I would even create extra accounts so that I could take control of more teams than Yahoo! would allow for each user. At one point, at the age of fifteen, I had all of my teams (seven basketball teams, six football teams, and four hockey teams) settled within the top three spots in their respective leagues. While luck often plays a major role in fantasy sports, dedication to statistics also plays an equal if not greater role. And I was dedicated.
I was never known to be a jock in high-school even though I was on the hockey team that placed second in the Fraser Valley (BC) regional tournament. I was always better at basketball than I was at any other sport, but I never hit my growth spurt until the age of 18, after my high-school graduation. While at Pacific Academy, the high-school basketball coach said I was “too short” to make the team, but he never said that I was short on skill. I continued to develop my game and by my senior year at Canadian University College, I was named the captain of the men’s basketball team. I finished the season averaging 14ppg, 8rpb, 4apg, and 2 steals per game. I’m no Michael Jordan, but I fancy myself a steady role-player in the mould of Shane Battier.
I have always been an athlete, but my love for sports has always been equally balanced by my love for following sports. I tend to spend at least a couple hours a day simply reading sports-gamers or feature stories and I never go to sleep without glancing over the box-scores and checking in on my fantasy teams.
While at Canadian University College, I regularly submitted sports articles for the school paper, The Aurora Chronicles.
Currently, I contribute monthly sports articles to the following publications:
Sports Central – the best fan site on the web.
Off-Centre Magazine – The Thompson-Okanagan’s only arts, issues, and entertainment mag.
I am also an active freelance writer specializing in business writing and journalism. For more information about that, check out my website: Kettner Communications.
Anyways, welcome to my blog! I hope to provide you with my take on all the hot topics in the world of basketball.
